Paradise got it's name when Lt Fremont trekked through the area and, after spending a hot day in Chico, proclaimed that the cooler weather on the ridge was like "Paradise." Folks have been moving up there to live under the cool trees ever since.

The population of Paradise is about 26,500 and it is a popular retirement community for people getting away from life in the Bay Area.
